Note: Gmail steps checked against Google's documentation on October 19, 2026.

Click **Undo** in the "Message sent" box at the bottom left of Gmail right after you send. You can only do it inside the cancellation window, which you can set to 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds in Settings. Once the window closes the email is gone and Gmail cannot recall it.

## How do you undo a sent email in Gmail?

1. Send the email as usual.
2. Look at the bottom left of the window. Gmail shows **Message sent** with **Undo** and **View message**.
3. Click **Undo**. The send is canceled.

- **Change how long you have:** click the gear icon, then **See all settings**. Next to **Undo Send**, choose 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds, then click **Save changes** at the bottom.
- The window is short by design. Google's page does not describe any way to take the message back once it has closed.

> These steps follow [Google's own documentation](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/2819488?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop), read on October 19, 2026 for Gmail on the web (desktop). They were checked against the documentation, not clicked through in a real account. This guide covers Gmail on the web; the Gmail apps have their own Undo. Menus change now and then; if a label differs, Google's page is the reference.

## How do you unsend an email in Donezo Inbox?

Donezo Inbox works the same way, with one extra choice. The message waits in the open app for the length of your undo window, then it goes to Gmail.

1. Send the message. A box appears at the bottom: **Message sent. Undo | Instant Send**.
2. Click **Undo** before it disappears. The draft opens again.
3. To skip the wait, click **Instant Send** (⌘⇧Z), which sends it now. Inside the draft, ⌘⇧Z does the same.
4. To change the window, open Settings, then General, and set **Undo send** to Off, 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds. The default is 10. Off sends at once, with no undo.

- While a message is inside the window, Donezo Inbox asks before you close the tab, so a message is not lost by closing the page. After the window it shows **Sending…** and Undo is gone.
- A scheduled send is different: it has its own Undo in the toast and a Cancel on the Scheduled row, until the time it goes out. See [how to schedule an email in Gmail](https://donezoinbox.com/how-to/schedule-an-email-in-gmail/).

You can send a message in the demo and watch the Undo box. [Open the live demo](https://donezoinbox.com/demo): it runs with sample mail, no sign-in.

## Why can't you unsend the email?

- **The Undo box is already gone.** The window ended. Gmail and Donezo Inbox both hold the message only for the seconds you set, and neither can recall it after that. Raise the window to 30 seconds for next time.
- **Undo takes a while, or the send is delayed.** Google suggests checking your connection, and sending from the Gmail app or mail.google.com rather than from a mail client such as Apple Mail or Outlook.
- **Donezo Inbox's setting is on Off.** Off means no waiting and no Undo. Choose 5 to 30 seconds under Settings, then General.

## Questions

### Can you recall a Gmail email after an hour?

No. Google documents Undo only as a short window after you send, up to 30 seconds. After that the email is delivered. If you need a message to wait longer than 30 seconds, schedule it instead and cancel it before it goes.

### What is the longest undo window in Gmail?

30 seconds. The options are 5, 10, 20 and 30.

### Does Donezo Inbox use Gmail's own Undo Send setting?

No. Donezo Inbox holds the message in the app for its own window (Settings, then General) before it hands the message to Gmail, so Gmail's 5 to 30 second setting does not apply to mail sent from it.

### Is there a way to stop an email I scheduled?

Yes. In Gmail, open Scheduled, select the email and click Cancel send; it becomes a draft. That works until the scheduled time.
